Sheila McCarthy

Involved since 2009

“I first got involved through Deb McGrath and Colin Mochrie. Deb invited me to “come for a wonderful walk” on Mother’s Day while we were both working on CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie. I brought my husband Pete and my daughters with me on the walk and thereafter that was my Mother’s Day gift from them, a walk for Meagan.

Pete died of cancer two years after our first Walk and so we dedicate each and every walk to his memory and to Meagan.

The Walk is a moment in the year where I stop and think about everyone I love and how unbearably precious life is. The collective Hug at the end of the walk never fails to bring tears for all of us and yet also a joyous feeling we are doing something important and that our lives have real meaning.

Being a small part of Meagan’s HUG is important to me and I hope to continue growing with it and contributing more.”
