Story of Heroes -Mia

Mia

Mia Grace had just celebrated her 1st birthday on June 30, 2015 when a few weeks later, she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. She underwent brain surgery and chemotherapy for 7 months.

Mia started treatment when her mother, Amy, was planning on returning back to work from her mat leave in late August. As a teacher, it was the time of year to worry about lesson plans and beautifying the classroom. Instead, Amy was by her baby girl’s side, helping her through months of treatment. Amy remembers trying to be strong and not have too many breakdowns, when all she wanted to do was cry in despair.

Now 4 years old and still cancer free, Mia will be starting kindergarten this year.

“Meagan’s Walk funded a medical trial that included less toxic doses of chemo resulting in less side effects. We owe the quality of Mia’s life to this trial,” says Amy.
